See What Our Patients Are Saying

I have been treated here by their chiropractor, massage therapist, acupuncturist, and physiotherapist, and each one has done an amazing job to help me recover from a motor vehicle accident. They are all super friendly and understanding and are willing to work with you as best as they can. Seen some great results so far. Highly recommend anyone at their clinic.

Brieanne M.

I’ve been going to Myo Lab for a number of years now now, for everything from simple fixes and tweaks needed from work and training; to rehab following a motor vehicle accident several months ago. The front desk workers have always been incredibly accommodating when trying to book or rebook appointments especially with all the craziness of today going on. And the treatment I have received from, the massage therapist, chiropractor and physiotherapist helps me to continue to do all I enjoy to do, pain free!

Scotty C.

I came to MYo Lab with a lower back / pelvis injury and chronic back muscle tightness from work. After only two weeks of seeing Shelly for chiro and physio work the pinching nerve had stopped giving me pain and muscle tightness is easing all the time. She uses multiple techniques that surpass most chiropractors work I have seen previously, Shelly also referred me for massages with Zack who was able to release more muscle tightness from postural issues and I will continue to see them both to maintain the new movement I have unlocked. I’m Super happy with MYo Lab and the friendly staff, I highly recommend you come here if you have had an injury or have chronic movement issues.

Nathan C.

I highly recommend physiotherapist Daniel Lawson at Myo Lab. He is extremely knowledgeable, conscientious and personable. He gives excellent detailed instructions/ coaching on how to perform each exercise and is also very encouraging as to the best way to make progress. I have personally witnessed the pain and stiffness lessen considerably as the muscles become stronger. Clearly, he brings a wealth of experience to his practice!

Common MVA Injuries Treated at MYo Lab

Motor vehicle accidents (MVAs) can leave you with lasting pain and mobility issues—but you don’t have to deal with them alone. At MYo Lab, we specialize in treating a wide range of MVA-related injuries to help you recover and get back to your daily life:

  • Whiplash & Neck Injuries: A common injury resulting from the sudden, forceful back-and-forth movement of the neck during an accident. Whiplash can cause significant damage and strain to the neck muscles, ligaments, joints, and discs.
  • Concussions & headaches: Mild traumatic brain injuries that can result from the impact of an accident.
  • Soft Tissue Damage to the Spine: Strains or tears in the tendons, ligaments, and muscles along the spine that impact movement and overall function.
  • Back & Spinal Injuries: From muscle strains to disc issues, back pain after an accident can be debilitating.
  • Shoulder & Arm Injuries: Seatbelt restraints and impact forces can cause shoulder strains, rotator cuff injuries, and nerve pain.
  • Herniated Discs: Displacement of the intervertebral discs that can cause pain and discomfort.
  • Stretched or Torn Tendons, Ligaments, and Muscles: Injuries along the spine that affect mobility and function.
  • Torn Meniscus: Damage to the cartilage in the knee.
  • ACL, PCL, and MCL Ligament Tears: Injuries to the ligaments that stabilize the knee joint.
  • Sprains and Strains: Injuries to the ligaments and joints in the foot and ankle.
  • Nerve & Soft Tissue Damage: Tingling, numbness, and muscle weakness can be signs of nerve compression or soft tissue damage.

Steps to Take After a Motor Vehicle Accident

  1. Get Immediate Medical Attention: Your health and safety are the top priority. Seek medical attention right away to assess and address any injuries, which should include your Chiropractor. If your injury is severe, be sure you get checked out at the hospital immediately following your accident if the ambulance doesn’t take you there first.
  2. Notify Your Insurance Provider: File an accident claim and a medical claim (these will be distinctly separate, so be sure to open both) with your insurance provider to initiate the process of receiving treatment and compensation.
  3. Consult with Your Insurance Adjuster: Your insurance adjuster will recommend treatment options based on your claim.
  4. Schedule an Appointment with Your Chiropractor or Physiotherapist: Book your appointment as soon as possible with our Chiropractic or Physiotherapy team so they can do a full motor vehicle-specific assessment and help you with the necessary paperwork you’ll need to complete to work through your medical claim. Book now to secure your spot.
  5. Get A Comprehensive Assessment: During your appointment, our rehabilitation specialist will conduct a thorough examination to determine the extent of your injuries from a Motor Vehicle Accident. Based on this assessment, we will develop a personalized care plan that includes the most effective therapeutic modalities for your condition.

You will receive ongoing treatment for a minimum of three months, with the possibility of extending the duration with approval from your insurance company if necessary.

Common Questions We Get Asked About Our MVA Treatment

What types of injuries do you treat following an MVA?

Motor vehicle accidents can result in a wide range of injuries, and we are equipped to treat them all (unless serious or life-threatening, then please seek urgent medical assistance at a hospital), including whiplash, back and neck pain, soft tissue injuries, mild fractures, and concussions. If you’re experiencing pain or discomfort after a car accident, even if it’s minor, seeking treatment early can prevent long-term complications.

When should I start chiro treatment after a car accident?

We recommend starting treatment as soon as possible following your accident—even if your pain seems minor or you feel “okay” at first. Symptoms of injuries like whiplash and soft tissue damage can take days or even weeks to fully appear. Beginning treatment early helps reduce pain and stiffness, restore mobility and function, and prevent long-term issues such as chronic pain and postural imbalances.

Delaying care can lead to complications that may prolong recovery. If you’ve been in an accident, book an assessment right away. Did you know in Alberta, you have 10 days to make a medical claim, otherwise, you may lose your ability to claim down the road if your injuries worsen, so get checked out immediately before you end up sore, injured, and not covered by your auto insurance!

Do I need a referral from my doctor to begin treatment?

In most cases, a doctor’s referral is not required to begin treatment with us. Chiropractors and Physiotherapists are primary healthcare providers, meaning you can schedule an appointment directly. However, some insurance policies may require a physician’s referral for reimbursement. We recommend checking with your provider to confirm any specific requirements.

How do I handle insurance claims for my treatment?

Don’t worry about this. Our team assists you by guiding you through the claim process, assisting with the necessary paperwork, providing direct billing to many insurance providers whenever possible, and, most importantly, ensuring you receive the care you need without unnecessary delays. Firstly, though, be sure you have your Medical Claim # as well as your claim representative’s name and contact info!

What should I expect during my first appointment?

Your initial visit includes a comprehensive assessment of your injuries, a discussion of your medical history, and the development of a personalized treatment plan. If you need additional information, you can also call us at the time of booking your appointment, and we’ll be happy to clarify any questions you may have.

How long will my recovery take?

Recovery time varies depending on the severity of your injuries, your body’s healing response, and how consistently you follow your treatment plan. Minor injuries may heal in a few weeks, while more severe injuries (such as whiplash or spinal misalignments) may require months of care. During your initial assessment, your Chiropractor will give you a personalized recovery timeline based on your condition. In Alberta, many MVA injuries are given 90 days of care to recover, and more if longer recovery is needed due to the severity of your injuries.

What treatment methods do you use?

Everybody’s different; you have a different medical history; the extent of your injury may be different, and so on. It’s hard to say what treatments we’d employ for each patient. That being said, we typically employ a combination of manual therapy, exercise programs, and modalities to facilitate recovery.

Can you help with the legal documentation related to my accident?

While we do not provide legal services, we can supply medical records, treatment reports, and injury documentation that may be required for insurance claims or legal proceedings. If you need additional documentation for your case, let us know, and we’ll ensure you have the necessary reports.

How can I manage pain between sessions?

Your Chiropractor or Physiotherapist will provide personalized pain management strategies, which may include:

  • Gentle stretching exercises to maintain mobility
  • Ice or heat therapy to reduce inflammation and muscle tension
  • Postural adjustments to avoid straining injured areas
  • Lifestyle modifications such as ergonomic changes at work or home

By following these recommendations, you can stay on track with your recovery between appointments.

What should I wear to my sessions?

For your comfort and ease of movement, we recommend:

  • Loose, comfortable clothing such as athletic wear or shorts and a T-shirt is ideal
  • Ideally, avoiding restrictive clothing like jeans or dress pants that may limit mobility

This allows us to access and assess the injured area while ensuring you can move freely during exercises.
