Relaxation Massage

A Calmer, More Relaxed You, Right Here in Calgary, AB

At MYo Lab, every one of our Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) is trained in both therapeutic and relaxation techniques, so you get the kind of care that your body needs that day.

A Relaxation Massage is a smooth, gentle treatment designed to help you unwind, release tension, and calm your nervous system. Using long, rhythmic Swedish strokes and slow circular movements, our RMT works to improve circulation, ease tight muscles, and bring your whole body back into a state of ease.

Unlike deep tissue or therapeutic massage, relaxation massage doesn’t correct movement patterns or treat injuries. Instead, it’s perfect when you’re stressed, mentally drained, or simply craving a reset after a long week. Many of our members choose it to support their mental health, improve sleep, or balance out higher-intensity training and treatment.

Even though it’s gentle, a Relaxation Massage still plays a meaningful role in integrative wellness. It can help regulate your parasympathetic nervous system (your body’s “rest and recover” mode), reduce overall tension and soreness, boost energy and alertness, and support your long-term wellbeing. If your goal is to feel lighter, calmer, and more grounded, this is the massage for you.

What Our Calgary Patients Are Saying

Always a great experience at this clinic. Dr. Shelly Bouvier is professional, caring, and really takes the time to help. My previous chiropractor was also excellent. The front desk staff are friendly and efficient, and the massage therapists here are amazing — skilled and attentive. Highly recommend!

Anton K.

I’ve just started coming to MYo and I’m very impressed with everyone I’ve dealt with. Shelley my chiropractor has been great and Ryan the massage therapist was terrific. I also really appreciate the friendly front office team: shout out to Anika and Tash for the good vibes.

John J.

I have been going to Myolab for a few weeks and highly recommend it to everyone.
I’ve been seeing Evan as my chiropractor and Zack as my massage therapist, who are “amazing”.
I’m very impressed with the treatment plan they have provided and the care I have received. I am looking forward to physio to maintain my health in 2022.

Marlene P.

I am a active cyclist who was looking for a new physiotherapy. I ended up finding not only a new physiotherapy also a massage therapist, chiropractor and soon I’ll start with the dietitian.
Myo lab works together to get you the best care possible for you. They have helped me get better and get stronger. Any small issues I have now can be fixed with one or two visits as they fixed my big issues. They have helped me get to the race line pain free!

Why Choose MYo Lab for Relaxation Massage?

Here’s where we go beyond the “typical clinic” talk:

Integrated Care With Chiro & Physio

Your massage isn’t just a standalone session. We’ve built a team where RMTs, Chiropractors, and Physiotherapists collaborate. If we notice something deeper beneath the surface, we’ll connect the dots for you.

Tailored to You

Every session starts with a conversation about how your body feels at the time. Some days you might need gentle soothing. Other times, you might prefer slightly deeper to help unload stress from your muscles. Your RMT will match work to your needs.

Science-Backed Massage Methods

Even in our relaxation sessions, we draw on techniques proven to help with circulation, nervous system balance, and muscle recovery.

Common FAQs About Relaxation Massage

What Is Registered Massage Therapy?

Registered Massage Therapy involves hands-on treatment of the muscles, fascia, and other soft tissues of the body. At MYo Lab, our RMTs are trained professionals regulated by the College of Massage Therapists of Alberta. They use evidence-based techniques to help with pain relief, recovery, and overall movement.

How is a relaxation massage different from therapeutic or deep tissue massage?

Relaxation massage uses gentle, flowing Swedish techniques designed to calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and ease general muscle tension. Therapeutic or deep tissue massage focuses on correcting dysfunction, targeting the deeper layers of soft tissue, and supporting injury recovery. If you’re unsure which you need, don’t worry about it – that’s what we’re here for. Our RMT can help guide you.

Will a relaxation massage be painful?

Not at all. Relaxation massage is intentionally gentle. You may feel mild pressure in tight areas, but the goal is comfort, calm, and ease. If anything feels uncomfortable, feel free to speak up to your RMT. They’ll be able to adjust pressure immediately to make you more comfortable while you get the most out of your session.

Will I be sore afterward?

Most people actually leave feeling lighter and more relaxed. It’s uncommon to feel sore after a relaxation massage, though if you carry a lot of tension, you might notice mild tenderness. It should usually fade within a few hours.

How often should I get a relaxation massage?

It depends on your stress levels, lifestyle, and goals. Many of our regular clients book every 4–12 weeks for general wellness, while others schedule weekly sessions during high-stress periods or after intense training.

Can I get a relaxation massage if I’m also seeing a Chiropractor or Physiotherapist?

Yes, absolutely. Relaxation massage pairs well with Chiropractic and Physiotherapy care by helping reduce muscle tension, improve circulation, and support your overall recovery plan. Your RMT can guide you through this if you need it.

What should I wear to the massage appointment?

Whatever makes you comfortable. You can undress to your comfort level or wear loose-fitting clothing. You’ll always be covered with a sheet during the session, and your RMT will only uncover the area being treated.

What other treatments are offered at MYo Lab?

We offer a range of therapeutic treatments under one roof, including:

Our multidisciplinary approach means your care team works together to support your recovery, movement, and overall wellness.

Do I need a doctor's referral for Massage therapy?

If a “doctor’s note” is required, our Chiropractors may fit that requirement. However, if a “Physician’s note” is required, you will need to see a medical doctor. If submitting to insurance, we encourage you to check with your specific provider to see if a note is needed and from which profession(s) they accept one.
