Why Is Leg Day Important?

Why is leg day really important? Today’s post seeks to answer this questions.

The importance of training the lower half of the body comes from various reasons. It can be for aesthetic reasons, so that the body is evenly distributed with muscle, or it can be for functional purposes as legs play a huge role in helping to support daily movements that the body has to perform.

Legs are composed of 4 main muscle groups: the quads, hamstrings, glutes, and calves. All these areas play different roles in the structure and function of the body.

Glutes play an essential role in helping to stabilize the upper body, pelvis and knees when performing certain movements.

Calves play an essential role in foot and ankle plantarflexion, helping to jump and run.

Quads also aid in movements as well as help to stabilize the knee and keep it tracking in line with the hips and ankles.

Finally, hamstrings aid in hip extension and knee flexion and allowing walking from one place to the next.

Creating a lower body routine that incorporates training all of these muscle groups is important in order to optimise motor movement patterns and build a balanced physique. Hopefully this helps to answer the question: why is leg day important?
