A Day In The Life Of A Physiotherapist

A Day in the Life of a Physiotherapist at Myolab Calgary

Ever wondered what a day in the life of a Physiotherapist is like?

We asked one of our Physiotherapists, Lydia, to share what a typical day looks like for her. Enjoy her detailed account!

Starting the Day with Mindfulness and Movement

Hello! My name is Lydia, and I am one of the Physiotherapists here at MYo Lab. Here’s what a typical day is like for me:

6:00 AM: My alarm goes off. I contemplate getting up to do some meditation and mindfulness work, as it’s important, and I always tell my members to make time for it. Instead, I do five diaphragmatic breaths and fall back asleep.

7:00 AM: My second alarm rings. I debate if I can sleep a bit more but accidentally almost fall back asleep.

7:10 AM: Finally, I get up and do a massive stretch, enjoying all the satisfying pops and clicks.

7:15 AM: I change into outdoor clothes to take my dogs out for a walk.

7:20 AM: I shuffle around getting organized and then take the dogs on a walk. It’s nice to start the day with some movement.

7:50 AM: I return home, feed the dogs, and make sure they are happy.

Fueling Up and Preparing for the Day

8:15 AM: Time for coffee. Physiotherapists thrive on caffeine and stress. I’m doing well.

8:20 AM: The coffee took surprisingly long to make. I drink it while doing a crossword puzzle to stimulate my mind.

8:45 AM: I end up doing a few crosswords. With my coffee finished, I decide not to make another one and take the dogs out again instead.

9:00 AM: I pack up and get ready for work.

9:15 AM: I bike to work. It’s a lovely ride today.

9:40 AM: I review my day, check all my notes for members, and make sure I’m prepared to see everyone. Sometimes members come in with unexpected issues, but I’m ready for anything.

Engaging with Members and Providing Care

10:00 AM: I start seeing my members. I give them all the exercises they need, explain each one, and watch them perform the exercises to ensure they do them correctly at home. I often use dry needling, one of my favorite treatments because it works so well.

12:30 PM: A gap between appointments gives me time for another coffee and some charting. I also send exercise emails to members to avoid doing it all tonight.

1:00 PM: The break flew by too quickly. It’s time to get back to seeing people.

6:00 PM: My workday ends. It was a good day; I helped many people.

6:15 PM: I bike home.

6:45 PM: I greet the dogs. My partner has already walked them, so I can relax for a moment. I get changed and put away my work things.

Evening Relaxation and Preparation

7:00 PM: I feed the dogs and do some training with them. They are such good boys!

7:30 PM: I realize I am hungry and need more than coffee to survive. I start making dinner.

8:30 PM: Making dinner took longer than expected. I’m very hungry now, so I eat dinner.

9:00 PM: I make the mistake of sitting down and looking at my phone. TikTok is addictive.

10:00 PM: I stop looking at my phone and force myself to send exercise videos to my members. It’s getting late!

10:30 PM: I’m all done with the exercise videos. I was nice and efficient today. Gold star for me!

10:45 PM: I get ready for bed.

11:00 PM: I’m in bed before midnight. A success!

11:00 PM: I am still not asleep. Maybe I should actually get up at 6 tomorrow and start my day early. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.
