How Often Should I Take A Rest Day?

In this blog post we are going to answer the question: how often should I take a rest day?

The answer to this question is quite simple: whenever your body is telling you that it needs it.

This is not when your brain is telling you it has been a long day so you would rather stay home and try again tomorrow, but when your body is sore, or fatigued. The biggest thing the answer comes down to is the ability you have to listen to the signals your body is telling you.

For a more structured answer, rest at least once a week or in between workout days depending on the frequency and volume of your training. If you follow a 6 day workout split a rest day could be placed in the middle, so after 3 days of training.

Similarly you could place the rest day at the end of the week depending on how your body is feeling. Although it is also important to keep in mind, the more volume you do in your training the longer it will take you to recover. Similarly the more compound exercises you do the longer it will take you to recover.

Ultimately the best practice is based upon the style of training you do, but being intuitive with your body and giving yourself a rest day when your body is telling you that is what it needs.
