How Graston Therapy Works

Primarily, Graston therapy is designed to help identify areas of fascial restriction and attempt to break up scar tissue during rehabilitation as an effective method in improving circulation/blood flow. This method assists in faster rehabilitation and greater success when the goal is to restore range of motion, eliminate pain, and restore normal function.

It breaks up fascial restrictions, scar tissue adhesions, and detects areas of chronic inflammation and/or fibrosis through the reverberation back through the instrument into the practitioner’s hand, which feels notably different when compared to healthy tissue.

Our Chiropractors incorporate Graston Therapy into your care and wellness sessions if we feel it will benefit you.

What To Expect During Your Appointment

Our process is simple. Here’s what you can expect during your Graston Therapy appointment:

1. Comprehensive Assessment: Your session begins with a thorough assessment of your condition, medical history, and any symptoms you’re experiencing. This helps us understand the root cause of your pain or injury, and if Graston Therapy is right for you.

2. Personalized Care Plan: Based on your assessment, we’ll create a treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs, such as how many sessions you need, which areas will benefit most from Graston Therapy, other chiropractic sessions, and so on.

Common FAQs About Graston Therapy

What is Graston Therapy?

Graston Therapy is an advanced form of manual therapy that uses specialized stainless steel instruments to identify and treat areas of soft tissue injury, scar tissue, and fascial restrictions. By applying controlled pressure with these tools, trained practitioners can break down adhesions and improve blood flow, allowing for faster healing and pain relief.

Is Graston Therapy painful?

Some patients may experience mild to moderate discomfort during the treatment as scar tissue and tight areas are addressed. However, this discomfort is typically brief and usually subsides within 24–48 hours after the session.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on the severity of your condition and how your body responds to treatment. Many patients notice improvements after the first two treatments, though more sessions may be needed for chronic or severe issues.

We typically don’t schedule you for more than two sessions per week. The average number of sessions for Graston treatment is 10–12 depending on factors like the extent of your condition and pain, age, lifestyle, etc.

Is Graston Therapy safe?

Yes, Graston Therapy is a safe and effective method for treating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. Athletes and individuals with chronic pain or tension commonly use it to speed up their recovery.

What can I expect after a Graston Therapy session?

After your session, you may experience some mild soreness, redness, or bruising in the treated areas. This is a normal response to the therapy and typically resolves within a couple of days. We’ll provide aftercare instructions to help manage any discomfort and/or discolouration.

Can Graston Therapy be combined with other treatments?

Absolutely! Graston Therapy is often used alongside other treatments like Chiropractic care, Physiotherapy, and Massage therapy to enhance recovery and improve results.
