Here are some frequently asked questions (FAQ) from our members! We hope that they can answer some of your burning questions, however please do not hesitate to reach out to our friendly Member Services team if you have any additional questions!

General

 

Q: What does the MYo Lab logo represent?

 

A: “MYo” is Latin for muscle and “Lab” is because we are a movement lab! The middle of our logo is a flask, to represent science and evidence-based care. The other component can be viewed as either acupuncture needles or barbells.

 

Q: Why is the “Y” in MYo capitalized?

 

A: Great question! We want you to feel at home when you trust us with your healthcare, and in doing so it is important you play an active role and are empowered in your journey. At MYo Lab the experience is all about you and your results, so consider MYo your safe place, call it your own, mine, or MY MYo!

 

Q: Do you have complimentary parking and if not where should I park?

 

A: Yes we do. We have 5 complimentary parking spots out back (spots 208, 209, 214, 215, 216) and there are many 2-hour paid parking spots on the streets around us! Additionally, there are two parking lots across the street from our building, one outdoor parking lot and one underground parking lot. Q: Is there an accessible elevator?

 

A: Yes! We do have an elevator that can bring you directly up to the clinic. Please give us a call at (403) 930-8686 upon arriving and we will personally escort you up in the elevator.

 

Direct Billing/Insurance

 

Q: Do you direct bill to extended health care insurance companies?

 

A: MYo Lab is excited to offer our patients the option for direct billing for a variety of extended health care insurance companies for our ChiropracticPhysiotherapy, and Massage Therapy services. We also offer Exercise Rehab Sessions, so you can participate in Personal Training and be billed through extended health care. Allow our Member Services team to do a complimentary benefits check for you during your first visit with us!

 

Q: Are you able to see how much coverage I have left under my benefits?

 

A: We do not have access to your personal benefits plan, so we are not able to see how much coverage you have left. However, when you access your plan yourself through the online portal that most insurance companies provide, you will be able to see your remaining coverage.

 

Q: Are you able to submit for secondary coverage?

 

A: It depends on the insurance companies. Some, but not all, policies are set up to check if the primary coverage has been used, and will allow billing as a secondary company. We will always check if we can direct bill to your secondary coverage, and do so where allowed.

 

Q: Can you direct bill my acupuncture appointment?

 

A: Great question! This all depends on the contract of your extended health care. Our Practitioners are not registered as acupuncturists which is what most plans require to direct bill. We would therefore recommend a self-submission for acupuncture appointments but are always happy to try on your behalf. 

 

Care And Wellness

 

Q: Why am I being referred to another Practitioner at MYo Lab?

 

A: We believe in truly collaborative, multidisciplinary care. Research shows that people get better results faster when they receive multiple types of care (adjustments, exercises, soft tissue/massage). As well, each of our Practitioners specializes in certain conditions and areas of the body. We want you to get the best results, fastest, and we will make recommendations that we believe will get you to your goal as efficiently as possible.

 

Q: Can I see multiple Practitioners on the same day?

 

A: Every person is unique, but most often it is encouraged that you use the team in this way! We love when our members are able to use our services on the same day.

 

Q: Can I still come in if I have an injury?

 

A: Of course you can! While your Practitioner won’t be able to work on your area of injury, one of the best ways to recover is to get blood flow and circulation moving throughout the body, which they will help you do by working on other areas.

 

Q: If I start to feel better, do I still need to come to my subsequent appointments?

 

A: Yes! Often we feel better much more quickly than dysfunction resolves, and here at MYo we don’t use a “band-aid approach” and our clinical goal is to make sure the issue is resolved to the best long-term outcome as possible!

 

Q: How do I know if I would benefit from orthotics?

 

A: Everyone could benefit from orthotics! They a helpful tool to alleviate and support any areas of the foot that you are not utilizing proper weight distribution! If you are on your feet all day, are an active individual, have low back/hip pain or just feel like you need more support throughout the day they can be a great tool!

 

Chiropractic

 

Q: I was recommended to see a Chiropractor, but I do not like the “cracking”, would seeing them still be beneficial?

 

A: Absolutely. Our Chiropractors are trained in a variety of techniques that can be beneficial to your care without needing to be adjusted. This could include mobilization of joints, more exercise/rehab or various other techniques.

 

Q: Do I need to get my neck adjusted if I see a Chiropractor at MYo?

 

A: No, you do not. It is your body and your right to decide. If our Chiropractors are confident in their expert opinion that you would benefit from a neck adjustment they will do appropriate testing to ensure it is safe, then also provide you alternatives for you to make the decision on how you would like to proceed. No pressure, no guilt, just informed consent around your goals!

 

Physiotherapy

 

Q: I have seen a Physiotherapist/Chiropractor before and it didn’t help. Should I try again?

 

A: The Physiotherapy/Chiropractic professions encompass thousands of treatments to rehabilitate thousands of conditions. Just because you didn’t achieve results with your last Physiotherapist or Chiropractor does not mean your condition cannot be improved or fixed by those professions, it means that specific therapist failed to help you. In which case, you should absolutely try a different therapist, and you should stop seeing a therapist if you do not see improvement after 2-3 months of working with them.

 

Q: Do I need to stop ‘X’ (activity, sport, etc.) while I am in Physiotherapy?

 

A: The honest answer is “it depends.” We fully recognize that you are likely in Physiotherapy so you can get back to doing the activities or sports you love and the last thing we want to do it take those activities away from you. Sometimes it is necessary to temporarily stop doing certain activities if they are causing levels of pain or dysfunction that is interfering with our treatment and delaying your recovery. Often, we can modify your activities or sports, using principles such as graded exercise exposure, so that you can keep doing the things you love while rehabbing with us. The best thing to do is talk honestly and openly about your concerns with your Physiotherapist and together you will determine the optimal solution.

 

Massage Therapy

 

Q: I’ve never had a massage before… what do I wear or not wear?

 

A: This is totally up to your own comfort levels! It’s quite common for people to undress completely but leave their underwear on, but therapists can treat over any clothing you choose to keep on as well. Your Massage Therapist will only uncover/drape the areas that will be worked on so you don’t have to be concerned about areas being exposed while being treated. Most of all, don’t hesitate to ask if you’re unsure! It’s our job to make sure you’re comfortable throughout the entire treatment.

 

Q: What length of massage appointment should I book?

 

A: This will depend based on your reason for coming in. Typically members will choose a 60 minute treatment. If you are seeking full body care, a 90 minute treatment may suit your needs better. Alternatively, if you are wanting one specific area worked on, a 30 or 45 minute treatment can be effective.

 

Q: How often should I get a massage?

 

A: Our Massage Therapists will recommend the best care plan for your needs based on what you are feeling and what they discover with objective testing throughout the session. They will also make a recommendation for any other disciplines you may benefit from seeing based on your current presentation.

 

Q: Should I talk during my massage?

 

A: That is totally up to you! If you would like to talk to the therapist during your treatment, all of our Massage Therapists are super friendly and would love to chat with you! And if you just want to close your eyes and relax for the duration of your treatment, no offence will be taken. There are times where you should speak up. For example, if your are in pain, if you are cold, or if you have a question.

 

Q: Does my massage have to hurt me to be effective?

 

A: Not at all. Different types of tissue will require different types of techniques to get effective release. Some areas by nature require more depth and pressure to access, and we ease into those areas as we progress through your care plan. You are always in control of your own treatment, and any technique or pressure level can be modified for your comfort.

 

Personal Training

 

Q: I’m curious about personal training but I don’t want to “get bulky”!

 

A: That’s actually a common misconception about strength training! A resistance-based strength training program designed and overseen by our certified Personal Trainers is the best way to not only build lean muscle but simultaneously lose fat while improving mobility, stability, strength, and improves cardiovascular health, mental health, and is proven to extend health and wellness while decreasing risk of illness and injury. “Getting bulky” requires hours of work each day for a multitude of months while also incorporating a significant change in diet; so no worries if that’s not your goal, strength training is your most ideal form of all-around fitness and exercise!

 

Q: How long should you work with a Personal Trainer?

 

A: A common question when it comes to training is the time frame in which you should be working with a Personal Trainer. The true answer to this question is that it depends on the person, but there is no reason that you could not work with one as a regular part of your weekly life for years to come! Personal Trainers can add a lot of value to your workouts on top of holding you accountable and improving your self-efficacy, so even when you know your way around the gym the addition of a trainer will only help you increase your results and be a positive addition to your workout routine.
